The difference lies in the uprights. A main rack is the start rack with 2 uprights, whereas an add-on rack is the continuing rack that uses only 1 upright to connect to the existing system. For example, if there are 15 wall racks against a wall, the structure will consist of 1 main rack and 14 add-on racks.
